Cranberry has long been used to prevent and treat urinary tract infections. Originally, this fruit was administered in order to acidify the urine and thus create an environment unfavorable to the development of bacteria.
Cystitis and Urinary Infection:
Cystitis is normally accompanied by urethritis, inflammation of the urethra . The most common symptoms are:
-Pain or burning when urinating.
-An abnormally high frequency of urination during the day (sometimes the need to urinate also occurs at night).
-A persistent feeling of needing to urinate.
-Cloudy urine, which gives off an unpleasant odor.
-Pressure in the lower abdomen.
UTI is caused by the abnormal proliferation of infectious agents in the urinary system which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Cystitis is by far the most common form of urinary tract infection, it almost exclusively affects women. This is inflammation of the bladder. Most of the time, the inflammation is caused by the proliferation of intestinal bacteria of the Escherichia coli type, which are numerous around the anus. The bacteria pass from the vulvar region to the bladder up the urethra. Anything that interferes with bladder emptying increases the risk of cystitis.
Anti-adhesion mechanism:
Since then, studies have shown that its beneficial effects lie rather in its ability to inhibit the adhesion of bacteria to the walls of the urethra and bladder. Not benefiting from an anchor point, these bacteria are then naturally eliminated by natural means.
